Marines aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany executed a physical training event, recently. The assault on Peleliu had the highest casualty rate of any amphibious invasion in terms of personnel and material during the entire war in the Pacific. The 1st Marine Division was sent in to take the island on Sept. 15, 1944. Marines fought for days with little to no food or water in some of the most brutal conditions until the island was secured. The fight for the airfield took eight days and each station represented one day in battle.
