U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Angel D. Marmolejo, a transmission system operator with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Gunnery Sgt. Bill P. Richardson, a low altitude air defense (LAAD) gunner with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Rein.), 31st MEU, scan the area while participating in mass casualty response training during MEU exercise (MEUEX) on Ie Shima, Dec. 17, 2021. MEUEX is a pre-deployment training exercise that validates and reinforces the MEU’s mission capabilities across all of the Marine subordinate elements. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
