U.S. Navy Capt. Robert Carpenter, Task Force Liberty surgeon general, receives the keys to the last planned building for Liberty Village from U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Alexandra Stellas, Task Force Liberty civil engineering contracting representative, center, and U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Nathaniel Burns, Task Force Liberty administrative contracting officer, Dec. 17, 2021, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 11,000 Afghan evacuees at Liberty Village, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
