Marines with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, and volunteers from Samaritan's Purse work together to distribute toys and books to Afghan Children, as a part of Operation Shoebox, in support of Operation Allies Welcome at Fort Pickett, Virginia on Jan. 1, 2022. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
