DAMERJOG, Djibouti (Jan. 7, 2022) Italian Police Officer Lt. Col. Paolo Iacopini, center, plants trees during a "peace tree" planting. Leaders from Damerjog hosted service members from the U.S., Italy, and Djibouti to plant "peace trees" in the Damerjog community. This project is another example of how service members not only advance security in the region, but also come together to enhance the well-being of their neighbors in Djibouti. CLDJ serves as an expeditionary base for U.S. military forces providing support to ships, aircraft and personnel that ensure security throughout Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia. The base enables maritime and combat operations in the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-Africa relations. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Jacob Sippel)
