Mr. Abdullah Amini, the senior Afghan cultural advisor for U.S. Army North, meets with members of the Task Force Pickett Civil Affairs and Female Engagement Teams on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Jan. 21, 2022. Amini, of Omaha, Nebraska, has served as a Department of Defense interpreter and cultural advisor for almost two decades and is now advising ARNORTH during its support to Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
