CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (Jan.19, 2022) - U.S Navy Master-At-Arms 3rd Class Jon Blodgett, a Sailor from Peabody, Mass., currently assigned to N34 Security Forces at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti (CLDJ), starts his first jiu-jitsu class of the night with a good warm-up. Blodgett, with his background as a police defensive tactics instructor and four-time Golden Gloves boxer, has been instructing jiu-jitsu classes onboard CLDJ since October 2021. “I enjoy learning and teaching and it’s something I enjoy practicing as well as giving back to members of CLDJ while forward deployed.” Blodgett hopes to teach 200 students with 500 hours of mat time before the end of his deployment. CLDJ serves as an expeditionary base for U.S. military forces providing support to ships, aircraft and personnel that ensure security throughout Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia. The base enables maritime and combat operations in the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-Africa relations. (U.S. Navy photo by Engineering Aide1st Class Jessica Couvillier)
