Fort Pickett, Va. (Jan. 24, 2022) U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Zackery Holt, rifleman, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, from Salt Lake City, Utah, gives Afghan evacuees luggage at the conclusion of their pre-departure brief. Pre-departure briefs provide information to evacuees about maneuvering through an airport to include ticketing, security, connections and baggage claim. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
