Idaho National Guard senior leaders visited with 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team Soldiers from Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Oregon, as well as the Florida Army National Guard in December as they conduct pre-mobilization training stateside prior to a 12-month deployment to Southwest Asia.

As part of the 45-day pre-mobilization training, Task Force Griz is receiving pre-deployment certification and training by the U.S. Army’s 5th Armored Brigade, including tank gunnery and individual Soldier tasks, as well as validation of individual medical readiness.

Idaho's senior leaders had the opportunity to observe some of the training and meet with Soldiers to see how their pre-mobilization experience is going. Additionally, task force leadership selected several Soldiers to receive special recognition for their training accomplishments, by receiving coins from Idaho’s adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Michael Garshak, and Brig. Gen. Farrin Schwartz, commander of the Idaho Army National Guard.

The deployment, in support of Operation Spartan Shield, is an ongoing joint mission under the United States Central Command and is part of Operation Enduring Freedom. More than 250 Soldiers from the Idaho National Guard departed Boise in November, which is nearly 20 percent of the task force for this first rotation, with a second rotation occurring in the summer of 2022.
