Gen. Meigs served as the head of U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army from 1998 to 2002, where he commanded the NATO peacekeeping force in Bosnia. A 1967 graduate from the U.S. Military Academy, he commanded an armored cavalry unit in Vietnam and the 1st Armored Division in the Persian Gulf War.
Gen. Meigs was named after his great-great-great granduncle who served during the Civil War as the Army’s Quartermaster General and was the architect of Arlington National Cemetery. He is also buried in Section 1.
