NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Jan. 25, 2021) - Damage Controlman 3rd Class Trevor P. Conyers, assigned to the engineering department aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), communicates with repair locker 1B during an integrated class bravo fire drill aboard the ship. George Washington is currently undergoing refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipbuilding. RCOH is a multi-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repairs, upgrades, and modernization.
