OKINAWA, Japan (Jan. 23, 2022) Capt. Greg Baker, center, commodore of Amphibious Squadron (Phibron) 11, Col. Michael Nakonieczny, left, commanding officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Capt. Ken Ward, right, commanding officer of the forward deployed amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) conduct a pre-sail conference aboard the USS America in preparation for integrated expeditionary training and operations. Together, the Navy and Marine Corps “blue-green team” enables the joint force to partner, persist, and operate forward to support fleet operations and naval campaigns. The ships of PHIBRON 11, along with the 31st MEU, are operating in the U.S. 7th fleet area of responsibility to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
