Maj. Gen. John M. Rhodes,commander of the Virginia-based 29th Infantry Division, and Command Sgt. Maj. Daryl Plude, visit with Virginia and Kentucky National Guard Soldiers assigned to 1-116th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Red Dragon, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, during their deployment, Jan. 18, 2021, at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. Rhodes and Plude visited with Soldiers, talked with them about their duties and the security force mission they hold on post. They also presented their special challenge coins to Soldiers nominated by their leaders for outstanding duty performance.
Maj. Gen Rhodes and Command Sgt. Maj. Plude are currently deployed in command of the 29th Infantry Division, Task Force Spartan, in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
Approximately 1,000 Virginia and Kentucky Army National Guard Soldiers are deployed as Task Force Red Dragon as a security force in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa.
