Weights of a 102k Dead Weight Force Machine in the Measurement Science & Technology Laboratory at Norco, California, Dec. 20, 2021. The machine was originally built to perform weight and balance testing of the UGM-27 Polaris missile, the U.S. Navy’s first submarine-launched ballistic missile, and is currently used by the lab to perform compression and tension tests, accurate to 0.0015% of indicated value, on a variety of load bearing devices such as load cells, dynamometers, force gauges, wheel scales, holdback bar standards, and proving rings.
