U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Luis B. Fajardo performs sword manual application as part of drill instructor school at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb. 8, 2022. The Marine noncommissioned officer’s sword is authorized for use by all enlisted Marines in the grade of corporal through sergeant major for parades, reviews, and other ceremonies. The mission of drill instructor school is to further develop the leadership, command presence, instructional ability, physical fitness, and knowledge of selected officers, staff non-commissioned, and non-commissioned officers to successfully perform the duties of series commanders and drill instructors.
