U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), debark an MV-22B Osprey with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 (Reinforced) during a tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel (TRAP) exercise aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), Philippine Sea, Feb. 9, 2022. Along with personnel and aircraft recovery, TRAP teams are also tasked with destroying sensitive material when deemed necessary, in order to deny the enemy access. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
