The Coast Guard Cutter Anacapa crew and local nonprofits partnered in late January to aid Southeast Alaska residents experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness.
Anacapa crewmembers worked with Humanity in Progress (HIP) and Working Against Violence for Everyone (WAVE) in support of Project Resource Connect to distribute clothing, hygiene items, and other resources to multiple communities.
The crewmembers volunteered in the Project Resource Connect fair in Petersburg, Alaska, where they moved donations to the community building and set up them up for easy access for residents in need.
Additionally, the Anacapa crew transferred 40 boxes of donated goods to the cutter for transport to Wrangell, Alaska. They used the cutter small boat to transport donations to Building Respect and Valuing Everyone (BRAVE) volunteers for further distribution to the community of Wrangell.
"I appreciate all the fantastic work that the Anacapa crew has done and continues to do as part of the community," said Capt. Darwin Jensen, Coast Guard Sector Juneau commanding officer. "These efforts show the close connections that the Coast Guard has with the communities that we serve and the people that we work with."
