A Kenyan Defense Force member with the Special Program for Embassy Augmentation and Response (SPEAR) cares for a simulated patient during an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise (EDRE) in Nairobi, Kenya, Feb. 25, 2022. SPEAR enhances the security of U.S. diplomatic posts in high-threat, high-risk environments by training law enforcement and security personnel in host nations to better respond to emergencies at U.S. diplomatic facilities. The EDREs ensure the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) is prepared for any contingency, including crisis response, humanitarian assistance, non-combatant evacuation operations, disaster relief operations, support to U.S. embassies, recovery capabilities of aircraft and personnel, and other missions as directed.
