Deployed Nebraska National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 734th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, currently assisting the Afghan Evacuation Mission Support Element, fly a University of Nebraska flag in commemoration of the state's 155th statehood anniversary March 1, 2022, at Camp As Saliyah, Qatar.
Nebraska was admitted into the union in 1867. Since then, its National Guard has played an integral part to provide disaster relief as well as answer its nation's call during armed conflicts.
At Camp As Sayliyah, the Kearney-based Soldiers are part of the largest evacuation operation since the Vietnam War, and work alongside members of all three Army components as well as the Navy, Air Force, and interagency partners to assist resettling Afghans as they await processing for onward movement.
