U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Ricky N. Rupp, commander of United States Forces Japan, discusses harbor operations with Chief Juan Vigil, the harbor master at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, March 1, 2022. Rupp visited MCAS Iwakuni to better understand the air station’s commitment to the U.S.-Japan alliance and level of military readiness. During the last year, the air station hosted both the JS Izumo and USS America, demonstrating the bilateral capabilities of its deep-water port. MCAS Iwakuni is an advanced naval base which provides positional advantage, strengthened strategic alliances, and support to fleet operations and naval campaigns. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
