The Beardstown Armory Key Transfer Ceremony took place Mar. 1 at the Beardstown National Guard Armory, as the Illinois National Guard transferred the building to the city of Beardstown and the Beardstown Park District. The building was officially dedicated on November 7, 1987 as a cooperative effort between the ILNG and Beardstown Park District. Several Illinois Army National Guard units have occupied the armory over the last 35 years. Most recently, the facility was home to the Illinois Army National Guard’s 616th Engineer Utilities Detachment. Brig Gen. Mark Alessia, Mayor Tim Harris, and Beardstown Park District Director Deon Summers were all in attendance. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Trenton Fouche)
