U.S. Marines with 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Japanese soldiers with the 1st Amphibious Rapid Deployment Regiment coordinate unit movements during a littoral maneuver exercise at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, Japan, March. 9, 2022. The littoral maneuver encompassed several units passing through other units' positions while moving toward an objective, these actions are the most complex evolutions a partnered force can conduct. Maritime Defense Exercise Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade is a bilateral exercise meant to increase interoperability and strengthen ties between U.S. and Japanese forces for the defense of Japan.
