An Air Traffic Navigation, Integration, and Coordination System (ATNAVICS) system is staged next to the airfield at Bardufoss Air Station in support of Exercise Cold Response 2022, Norway, March 9, 2022. The ATNAVICS is a USMC expeditionary High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle mounted radar system that provides airport surveillance, secondary surveillance, and precision approach radar. This system allows the U.S. Marines of Marine Air Control Squadron 2, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing, to provide lateral and vertical guidance to an aircraft pilot for landing, until the landing threshold is reached. Exercise Cold Response ’22 is a biennial exercise that takes place across Norway, with participation from each of its military services, as well as from 26 additional North Atlantic Treaty Organization allied nations and regional partners.
