PACIFIC OCEAN (April 16, 2022) – A landing craft, air cushion (LCAC) assigned to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 5 prepares to depart the well deck of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), April 16. Amphibious assault ships use LCACs and helicopters to move Marine assault forces ashore. Makin Island is currently underway conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet.
