Sgt. Abass Naser, a tanker with the 2nd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division (Mechanized) recites poetry at Camp Taji, Iraq, Jan. 6, during an observance commemorating the establishment of the Iraqi army 87 years ago. Naser said the observance meant a lot to him and that serving in the IA is something that should be supported by "every Iraqi citizen who loves his country." The traditional date for the Iraqi army's activation is Jan. 6, 1921, when King Faisal (bin Hussein) I established the first true Iraqi army battalion.
