SCHRIEVER SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. --U.S. Navy Intelligence Specialist Master Chief Petty Officer (ISCM) Stephen M. Harano of Naval Information Force Reserve Region Southwest (NAVIFORCES REG SW) is a 5th generation American of Japanese Ancestry. His family migrated from Japan in 1898 and established their home in Berkeley, CA. After the attacks on Pearl Harbor, his family was interned across the west coast, and all of their property and assets were seized. Two of ISCM Harano’s family members volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a segregated Japanese American Unit, and were killed in action during World War II. ISCM Harano currently serves as the Regional Senior Enlisted Leader for an Echelon 3 TYCOM detachment responsible for the Man, Train and Equip mission of 1,962 Sailors across 25 Information Warfare units, including 637 embedded sailors in California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam.
