Soldiers from the 921st Field Hospital (FH) from Bell, Calif. and 1979th Forward Surgical Resusitive Detachment (FRSD) from Little Rock, Arkansas, conduct TeamSTEPPS training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on April 8-10, 2022.
TeamSTEPPS is an evidence-based set of teamwork tools, aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication and teamwork skills among health care professionals. The skills are taught through lectures and hands-on practice to improve through practical exercise.
“It's utilizing tools that we can communicate, doesn't matter what unit you are, where you're coming from, we can all fall in together and utilize these same tools to communicate effectively,” said Capt. Manuel Warrior, 1979th Forward Surgical Resusitive Detachment nurse anesthetist.
The Mayo Clinic helps train Army medical professionals on TeamSTEPPS, the skills are taught through lectures and hands-on practice through practical exercises.
Pfc. John Rodriguez, a 921st Field Hospital combat medic said “I'm really enjoying this training, because it's something different but it's valuable in the long term.”
