After two years of continual effort, the new $100 million state-of-the-art Hangar 6 officially opened Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Commander, Joint Strike Fighter Wing Commodore CAPT Adan Covarrubias, NAS Lemoore Commanding Officer CAPT Douglas M. Peterson, Public Works Officer CDR Greg Woods, Harper Construction leadership and other key personnel. The project – which was completed on time and under budget - involved 1,300 tons of steel, 80,000 masonry units and non-stop work through 122 weekends. The hangar includes a parking apron, marshaling area, taxiways and all associated lighting. Hangar 6 will house VFA-97 and VFA-147. Both squadrons currently operate the U.S. Navy’s F-35C Lightning II jets.
