Carrie Kelley is the Family Readiness Group volunteer for 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team.
"I started volunteering for our FRG after my brother, SSG Lawrence E. Kelley, was killed in a car accident. It was his unit's FRG and my mom and I wanted to do it in his memory.
I would say the most rewarding part of volunteering is being able to see what his military life was like. Meet the guys he served with, see the vehicles they drove and worked on, see some of the weapons they used and, kinda in a way, be part of that life.
I think more people should volunteer to see what their soldiers are a part of. Meet the other soldiers and their families. It’s honestly like one big family. You get to see the good and the bad. But at the end of the day, no matter what happens you know they have your back! And that to me is definitely worth volunteering!"
