Sand lines a Lake Erie beach, protected by an offshore rubblemound breakwater – one of 55 installed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reduce shoreline erosion – at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania, April 5, 2022. To control erosion of the peninsula’s shoreline, and to induce the continued growth of it’s Gull Point – a habitat for endangered species – the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District nourishes the beach with new sand each year.
