Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) Director, Samuel J. Cox, a retired Navy rear admiral, gives honors to the memorial site of USS Houston (CA 30) and HMAS Perth (D 29) at the Arlington National Cemetery. In conjunction with Memorial Day weekend, NHHC and partners visited the Houston and Perth memorial site to honor the legacy of both ships. Houston and Perth currently remain at sea after their defeat in combat during World War II's Battle of Sunda Strait in 1942. Nearly three-quarters of Houston’s 1,093 crew perished at sea, and the survivors were captured as prisoners of war. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Jalen D. Walton)
