    Chief Commissaryman and WW-II veteran Robert Manges arrives at Base Portsmouth to celebrate a late 100-year birthday May 25th, 2022. Manges toured the Coast Guard Cutter Legare, observing what a Coast Guard galley has to offer compared to the USS Wakefield he traveled on while transporting U.S. soldiers and German prisoners back from the European theater, a total of 34 voyages.     He was also given medals that he never received including the American Defense Medal, the WW-II Victory Medal, the European- African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Arctic Service Medal, and the American Campaign Medal.
