U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Hoffman, 448th Civil Affairs Battalion non-commissioned officer in charge of operations, checks a patient's pulse during a medical civic action program clinic in Chebelley, Djibouti, Oct. 6, 2012. The Joint Civil Affairs Teams and 448th Civil Affairs Battalion Functional Specialty Team worked alongside Djibouti Ministry of Health personnel to provide medical and dental care to local villagers and to share best practices during the event. Hoffman is deployed from Fort Lewis, Wash., and is originally from Beaver Dam, Wis.
