Members of the Texas Children’s Choir sing a musical prelude during the Battle of Midway Commemoration Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii, June 7, 2022. The choir traveled over 3,700 miles from San Antonio, Texas to perform in the ceremony. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Midway, which was a turning point of World War II’s Pacific War. Honored attendees of the event included two veterans of the battle, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Ed Fox, and U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Julian Hodges. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partnered with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Texas Children’s Choir, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, American Battle Monuments Commission, and the Friends of Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge to make the ceremony possible.
