Pvt. Michael Mondrell, a volunteer with the Alaska State Defense Force, speaks with a representative from Advanced Blasting Services a head of the Lowell Point Road opening, May 27, 2022 in Seward. Heavy civil contractors assisted with slope stabilization following the May 7 Bear Mountain landslide that blocked the road and access to and from the community of Lowell Point for 20 days. An Alaska Organized Militia Task Force was activated following a request from the State Emergency Operations Center for support to aide with traffic controls and other duties assigned by the incident commander.
