To recognize the Army Engineer Regiment's 247th birthday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District held a muster June 16 on the front lawn of their headquarters building at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Bill Barna, electrical engineer; and Will Shumway, engineering intern; represented the oldest and youngest members of the district in cutting the cake with a saber along with Col. Damon Delarosa, district commander. The more than 100 year old calvary saber used to cut the cake belonged to a family member of the commander and was used by a relative in the Mexican Revolution and World War I.
