High School and middle schoolers attending the San Antonio ACE Academy visited the 99th Flying Training Squadron where they got an in-depth look at what it takes to become an Air Force pilot. At the 99th FTS they learned about the historic Tuskegee Airmen lineage and how they broke race barriers to become elite fighter pilots during WWII. Here, they also got the chance to sit in the cockpit of a T-1 Jayhawk aircraft. Next they had the chance to fly state of the art immersive training devices at the 559 FTS, where they got to see what it feels like to fly a T-6 Texan II aircraft. The San Antonio ACE Academy is part of the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, an organization that seeks to create pathways of success with diverse youth through education and mentorship in aviation career fields.
