220627-N-ST310-001 NORFOLK, VA (June 27, 2021) A scanned postcard image of the Convoy Escort Piers onboard then Naval Operating Base Norfolk. The piers were used for active fleet berthing until the close of 1946, at which time they were converted to reserve fleet berths for inactive aircraft carriers, and then converted later for active submarine berthing. Construction for the replacement Pier 3 is scheduled to begin in July 2022. Image courtesy of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. (U.S. Navy archive photo/released)
