View of Rockingham, part of the Rockingham State Historic Site, located in Kingston, New Jersey, June 21, 2022. The home served as Gen. George Washington’s final headquarters during the American Revolutionary War from Aug. 23 to Nov. 10, 1783. During his stay at Rockingham, Washington wrote his Farewell Orders to the Armies of the United States. The original structure was built in 1710, and later was bought by John Berrien in 1735. It was saved from demolition by Josephine T. Swann who purchased it in 1896. The Washington Headquarters Association of Rocky Hill moved and restored it. In 1935, it was turned over to New Jersey.
