Soldiers, Families and civilians from the Fort Campbell community watch a Salute to the Nation ceremony July 4 at The Division Parade Field during the installation’s Independence Day celebration. On the Fourth of July every U.S. installation fire a 50-Gun Salute to the Union, which represents the nation’s 50 states. The firing of artillery pieces in salute traces its origins to the early practice of armed naval vessels exchanging cannon salutes in passing.
