U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. (Ret.) Alastair Livingston tours the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD 24) with Marines from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in Rijeka, Croatia, July 14, 2022. Livingston was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Silver Cross for his bravery during the Vietnam War and was later given a battlefield commission during the war. After his time in the Marine Corps, Livingston went on to work with the United Nations among other peacekeeping organizations. He now lives in Zagreb, Croatia, with his wife and two children. The Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group and 22nd MEU, under the command and control of Task Force 61/2, is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations, employed by U.S. Sixth Fleet to defend U.S., allied and partner interests.
