220531-N-NC372-213 From right to left, David Collins from Raytheon Technologies, Jennetta Gilchrist and Darin Lilly with HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division check for the correct angle of one of Pre-Commissioning Unit John F. Kennedy’s (CVN 79) SPY-6(V)3 radars before being installed permanently on John F. Kennedy. The SPY-6(V)3 variant was designed and built by Raytheon Technologies specifically for the U.S. Navy’s Ford-Class of aircraft carriers. The SPY-6(V)3 aboard John F. Kennedy features three fixed-faced array faces, each containing nine radar modular assemblies providing John F. Kennedy with air traffic control and ship self-defense capabilities. John F. Kennedy is the second Ford-class aircraft carrier and is under construction at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division in Newport News, Virginia.
