    For those with military identification that allows them access to the Presidio of Monterey, the Presidio of Monterey Cemetery includes the gravestones of three Buffalo Soldiers. In 1904, Pvt. George Johnson, a Buffalo Soldier, became the first person buried in the cemetery. Petrum R. Frazier, a cook who died May 19, 1909, and Pvt. Thomas Polk, who died Sept. 13, 1911, also Buffalo Soldiers, are buried in the cemetery.
