Karen Osler, a park ranger with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, cleans a bathroom near a boat launch at the Youghiogheny River Lake in Confluence, Pennsylvania, July 14, 2022. Working as a park ranger requires an array of tasks, including cleaning bathrooms from time to time. Osler is an avid animal lover and her job allows her to fund her own private hobby farm at home. While cleaning bathrooms she said, “I didn’t sign up to be a park ranger to clean bathrooms, but if that’s what I have to do to get to the critters, then so be it.” Osler worked as a big cat handler at the Western Pennsylvania National Wild Animal Orphanage for 15 years, which rescued exotic animals, such as tigers, lions, bobcats, cougars, leopards and more. Osler has wanted to work with animals her whole life. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District photo by Michel Sauret)
