A U.S. Marine with Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 172 conducts engineer route reconnaissance while on patrol during a field exercise at Jungle Warfare Training Center, Camp Gonsalves, Okinawa, Japan, July 19, 2022. MWSS-172 held this exercise in order to demonstrate proof of concept for external lifts, to refine the Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations concept, and to improve the engineer company’s combat effectiveness in an expeditionary jungle warfare environment.
