DR Turner is a native of San Jose, CA and earned his commission from the US Naval Academy in 2005. He was designated as a Naval Aviator in 2007 and flew SH-60B/R Seahawk helicopters until 2013, when he was selected for lateral transfer to the Human Resources community.
Following Fleet Replacement Squadron training at HSL-40 in Mayport FL, he reported to HSL-44, Mayport, FL in 2008. He immediately received IA orders and deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Officer-in-Charge of a detention center at Camp Bucca, Iraq, from 2008-2009. Upon his return, he requalified in the SH-60B and volunteered to augment HSL-60, Mayport, FL. He deployed to Haiti in support of Operation Unified Response, and to the SOUTHCOM AOR for Counter-Illicit Trafficking operations, both embarked USS UNDERWOOD (FFG-36). He returned to HSL-44/HSM-74, now at NAS Jacksonville, FL, and served as an Aircraft Commander, Functional Check Pilot, and Assistant Operations Officer. In 2012, he reported to the 8th Flying Training Squadron, Vance AFB, OK and served as an Instructor Pilot.
In 2013, he laterally transferred to Human Resources Officer and reported to PERS-8, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, TN. In 2015, he reported to FT Leavenworth, KS, for US Army Command and General Staff College. In 2016, he reported to Naval Education Training Professional Development Center (NETPDC), Pensacola, FL, as Deputy Director, Navy Voluntary Education Program. In 2018, he reported to San Diego, CA, as Officer-in-Charge, Personnel Support Detachment North Island. In 2020, he reported to Navy Recruiting Orientation Unit, Pensacola, FL and served as Assistant OIC. In 2022, he assumed the duties of Officer-in-Charge, Navy Recruiting Orientation Unit.
CDR Turner holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the US Naval Academy, a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, and is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification.
Personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Humanitarian Service Medal and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
His wife, Catherine, is from Pensacola, FL and they have four children.
