U.S. Marines and Sailors assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit Maritime Raid Force and senior military leaders from the Indonesian National Armed Forces ride an Amphibious Assault Vehicle during a raid as part of Super Garuda Shield 22 on Singkep Island, Aug. 4, 2022. Garuda Shield is an annual combined and joint exercise between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, designed to strengthen interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades of shared experiences. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
