220809-N-CE703-0021 Royal Australian Navy Commander Bill Triffitt, Maritime Surveillance Advisor to the Solomon Islands, addresses U.S. Sailors and Coast Guardsmen assigned to Independence-class littoral combat ship USS Oakland (LCS 24) during a ceremony off of the coast of Savo Island, to honor the lives lost aboard HMAS Canberra, the Battle of Savo Island, and the Guadalcanal Campaign of World War II, August 9th. LCS are fast, agile, mission-focused platforms designed to operate in near-shore environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats.
