PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 4, 2022) – An MV-22 Osprey, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 362 (Reinforced), 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, takes off of the flight deck during a non-combatant evacuation operation (NEO) simulation exercise aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Aug. 4.NEO is a process of safely evacuating civilian noncombatants and nonessential military personnel from danger in an overseas country to a designated safe haven, typically within the continental United States. Makin Island, flagship of amphibious squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is currently underway conducting integrated training in the U.S. 3rd fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
