A U.S. Marine participates in a body composition assessment on Aug. 22, 2022 at The Basic School on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. The Marine Corps recently changed body composition standards as a result of a year-long study conducted by the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine. The study evaluated current body composition assessment methods to ensure service standards optimize health, performance, and fitness. Beginning January 1, 2023, Marine Corps units will utilize more accurate and unbiased method of body composition assessment prior to enrolling Marines in the body composition program.
